The Illusion of Choice: Politics in a Relativistic Society…Or, Nothing But Jesus

During my lifetime, past protests have usually appeared to be one-sided affairs…progressives dismayed by conservative rule or conservatives dismayed by progressive rule. Today, there is an attempt to portray the same dichotomy, however, the masks have been ripped away. The moral failure of the so-called progressive and conservative movements has exposed their dark collusion as a grab for power of history-shaking potential. Of course, both “movements” have painted one another as lost causes sliding faster and faster toward an abyss of cruelty…each accusing the other of despotic intentions. But now the evidence is overwhelming: both have moved us completely into the cruel and hateful religion of relativism. There are no longer any substantial societal principles of altruism. Even those that “look” like altruism stand upon sand. They have no greater foundation or support than that of whoever yells first, the loudest, or the most often. Regarding these monstrosities, choice is a lie. Yes, we still have choices, but good ones do not belong to any participant in the religion of relativism. The sanctity of life, the priority of honesty, the possibility of goodness, the certainty of sexual identity, the potential for selflessness, the promotion of fairness, etc. belong to a revolution that neither comes from or depends upon the religion of relativism and its two contemporary constituencies…the right and the left. Today, both these versions of hell are built upon upheaval and chaos. Partnership with either is partnership with idolatry. Choose either version and you receive the same outcome.

Do you prefer the so-called safe limitations of the Right? You’ll first think you’re large and in charge, but its now ever present back-sliding into relativism will ultimately lead you to bitterness, loneliness, and despair. Your idolatry will leave you in the bondage of cruelty to others first and then yourself. Do you prefer the so-called safe limitlessness of the Left? You’ll first think you’ve unleashed your true self, but its now ever present goose-stepping into deeper relativism will ultimately lead you to bewilderment, exploration, dabbling, and despair. Your idolatry will leave you in the bondage of cruelty to self first then to others.

Do you prefer one or the other of the presidential candidates? Vote as you wish? What will you get? To one degree or another, you’ll get deception, corruption, conceit cronyism, and degradation.

Do you prefer capitalism or socialism? Choose as you like. Since both are now controlled by the cohort and peer groups of the presidential candidates (and you might just as well toss in all the others clamoring for their share of the King’s Ransom), what will you get? Deception. Corruption. Conceit. Cronyism. Degradation.

The end for either is the same…the blind leading the blind. Leave them quickly. Let them rot so their people will finally see them for what they truly are…the flimsy apparel of darkness wrapped in trace amounts of clean thread. Become revolutionary. Join the ranks of the Tender Warrior, the Benevolent King, the Suffering Savior. The One who alone embodies all that we want or could ever need…justice, mercy, and grace, righteous indignation and selfless contrition, the ultimate power and the utmost knowledge, the never-ending, never-changing, self-evident, and self-existing Lord of both honor and humility, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I repeat, God…not his followers (faithless or faithful), not his Church (loveless or loving), not his counterfeits (harmful or helpful)…just Jesus, the incarnation of God.

Jesus Loves Me, This I Know

I like progress. I like it when we improve and make things better. I like conservation. I like it when we conserve what is right and good and necessary.

I hate abusive political progressivism. It uses the word progress for the relativism people seem to love so much. It seeks change for the sake of change regardless of whether it’s helpful or not. It seeks change based on the emotional appetites of its possessors. It seeks to conserve the tired, worn out ways of The Dark Triad: machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. It leads to oligarchy and suffering…oligarchy for the few, suffering for the many. I hate abusive political progressivism.

I hate abusive political conservatism. It uses the word conserve for the dogmatism people seem to love so much. It seeks maintenance for the sake of maintenance regardless of whether it’s helpful or not. It seeks maintenance based on the emotional appetites of its possessors. It seeks to progress the tired, worn out ways of The Other Dark Triad: legalism, nepotism, and sociopathy. It too leads to oligarchy and suffering…again, the former for the few, the latter for the many. I hate abusive political conservatism.

Both abusive political progressivism and abusive political conservatism are on full display these days. They both use and abuse privilege…especially the privilege of truth. This is why great documents like The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution get bandied about by both groups. They become documents of first rejoinder…not for truth and clarification, but for clout, agitation, and propaganda.

I hate both abusive political progressivism and abusive political conservatism…and apparently they both hate me and you. They both fail. There is hope in neither, but there’s hope in Jesus.

Jesus loves me and he loves you.

He also loves progress. He loves it when it advances the purpose of his Father’s love and truth. He also loves conservation. He loves it when it too advances the purpose of his Father’s love and truth. In fact, he abides in his Father’s truth and he invites his followers to do likewise. His joy from progress and and his joy from conservation are not political. They are personal. What he said and did as well as what he says and does are ever the same. He was, he is, he ever shall be immutable. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He cannot be changed, swayed, or bandied about. He loves life and eternal life. He offers both. Jesus loves me. He loves you too.
